    Could you please clarify this? If I make an empty layer, convert it to a smart object, and attempt to apply the high pass filter, PS tells me that it can’t apply it because the selected area is empty. If I create a new layer by copying the background, convert it to a smart object, I can apply the high pass filter, but the filter dialog box doesn’t give me any options for selecting the blending mode. I am using PS CS5. Thanks!
